Communion, also called the Lord’s Supper, is a practice instituted by Jesus at the Passover meal in Luke 22. Modern communion practices in most churches involve consuming some kind of bread and juice or wine. It is done in a solemn ceremony that is silent, individual, and reflective.
While we are called to examine ourselves (1 Corinthians 11:27-29), the practice in the early church involved a communal meal of joy and thanksgiving, remembering what God has given them in Christ. It was more of a family table than a solemn altar.
Come and see what that may have been like! While we can’t promise this is an exact 1st century experience, we can say that Jesus will be remembered and celebrated!
